Yes, yes, I know I haven't updated this in a while. Hopefully we haven't lost any fans. Ellie is still cute as a button and delighting us daily with new skills and tricks. We've gotten to share her with both sets of Grandparents this month. Tate's parents came into town to surprise Tate for his birthday and despite a few glitches we managed to surprise him. We had a great weekend and Ellie loved Nana and Papa very much. The next weekend my parents came into town and Ellie started to really get used to the 4 adults to one baby ratio! Grammy and Grandpa watched Ellie in the morning as Mommy slept in and even babysat one night while Tate and I went out for sushi. Ellie learned a few tricks from Grammy, including kneeling and Grandpa managed to soothe Ellie to sleep in the car - not an easy feat!
Despite having help from the Grandparents, Tate and I have been a little swamped and sleep-deprived due to a number of issues
1. We've gotten more snow this December than we've seen yet in our life in Wisconsin. I think we're at something around 2 feet! The snow makes taking the dogs for walks difficult and of course there is all kinds of shoveling and house maintenance to go along with it. We're ready to be back in Texas!
2. Ellie was also plagued by some tummy troubles for a couple of weeks. We were changing diapers and outfits a bazillion times a day.
3.Tate was busy polishing up his law school apps, finishing papers, and studying for finals.
4. Christmas shopping with a baby is fun, but not exactly super efficient. Adding snow and bitter cold temps didn't help. Wrapping gifts with Ellie around is even more difficult than wrapping gifts with Otis around. Both are passionate about crinkly paper and ribbons and can't be trusted around scissors or tape.
5. Ellie wasn't sleeping very well due to the tummy problems and seemed to have gotten used to waking up often and early.
But, every thing is calming down dramatically! Tate just turned in his last paper, law school apps are in, presents are almost all out, and Ellie's tummy is better.
Today we are especially happy because Ellie slept 12 hours last night and the night before and Tate got his LSAT score back - he knew he did well, but his score is even better than he had hoped! Also, my sister, Alissa and my parents are arriving in town this Sunday for a white Christmas.
Now, enough about us, here's what is happening with Ellie-bean:
1. Food. We've now given her tastes of rice cereal, sweet potato and applesauce. She's not to crazy about it though and only applesauce seems even remotely tasty.
2. 6 months old. Yes, that was the fastest 6 months EVER!!!
3. She is short and chubby. She is 17lbs, which puts her in the 75th percentile for weight and 25in which is only in the 25th percentile for height.
4. She's actually not that chubby, most of her weight is in her head. Seriously, her head is off the charts huge. The nurse wrote down 100th percentile, even though that is not mathematically correct. It is the size of an average 2 year old's head.
5. Noises. She's making all kinds of wonderful noises including some very high-pitched ones, mama, dada, ni (as in the Knights of Ni), lots of raspberries, a fake cough, and her favorite, gua. We think she wants guacamole. Either that or she is concerned about the prisoners in Guantanamo.
6. She pulled herself up to standing all by herself. I set her down in the crib last weekend and she lunged for the edge, grabbed on, and stood up!!! Babyproofing is in our very near future.
7. Love. It now feels like she really loves us. She leans in to kiss us, shrieks when we come into the room, and lunges for us when someone else is holding her.
Despite a couple of rough weeks I really don't think life could get any better!
We're really looking forward to relaxing over the next couple of weeks, spending time with family, and celebrating the miracle of life and love!
